URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Chief Larry D. Boone of the Urbana Police Department recently announced that Lieutenant Dave Smysor graduated as a member of the 291st session of the prestigious FBI National Academy.

The FBI National Academy is a prestigious program aimed at international and U.S. law enforcement managers aimed at enhancing leadership skills and professional standards worldwide. The National Academy offers a rigorous ten weeks of communication, fitness, and leadership training and is known for its academic excellence. The National Academy is very selective, with lower than one percent of officers with the opportunity to attend. The officers involved on average have 21 years of law enforcement experience and return to their agencies to serve executive-level positions.

“On behalf of the entire department, I am incredibly proud of Lt. Smysor for successfully completing the internationally recognized FBI National Academy. This prestigious achievement not only reflects his personal dedication to professional growth but also enhances the capabilities of our department as a whole,” said Chief Boone.

Lieutenant Symsor is one of the very few Urbana Police Department officers to graduate from this program. Astoundingly, he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, METRO SWAT operator, detective, sergeant, detective sergeant, Criminal Investigations Division Lieutenant, and Patrol Division Lieutenant. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University on top of being a graduate of the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University.
