URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana Police Department (UPD) was recently featured in the International Association of Chiefs of Police magazine. The article, “Spotlight: A Peace and Safety Patrol,” examines the UPD’s “Clergy Patrol,” which has recently started for the department. When Chief Larry D. Boone became Chief of Police for the City of Urbana, he was confident the program he had started in Norfolk VA, could be implemented in Urbana too. Boone says, “Our clergy patrol initiative aims to reduce violence, particularly gun-related incidents, by tackling underlying causes and strengthening community resilience.”
