CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Fighting Illini quarterback Luke Altmyer was named to the Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award, now in its 88th year, has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937. 

Altmyer, a junior from Starkville, Mississippi, has led Illinois football to a 5-1 start this season.

Altmyer, who is also on the Manning Award watch list and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Top 25, is in his second year as the team’s starting quarterback. He has thrown for 1,426 yards on 67.7% passing with 14 touchdowns and just one interception. His current quarterback rating is 167.7.

Altmyer and his teammates host #24 Michigan on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
