UPDATE BELOW: School bus hit on the way to Thomasboro in afterschool commute

The Champaign County Sheriff's office confirms that first responders are on scene after a school bus accident in Thomasboro this afternoon.

UPDATE at 5:15 p.m. Regular travel routes can be resumed as the accident area has been cleared.

THOMASBORO, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s office confirms that first responders are on scene after a school bus accident in Thomasboro this afternoon.

Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman confirmed the crash happened near Route 45 and County Road 2400 N. after 3 p.m. Sheriff Heuerman says the accident is still under investigation, and motorists should use caution or avoid the area completely. Route 45 northbound is closed, down to one lane southbound. Traffic is being diverted off at County Road 2400 N.

While there were students on the bus at the time of the accident, no one was injured on the bus. The driver of the vehicle that hit the bus was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
