CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois redshirt freshman wrestler Kannon Webster was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. He’s the first Big Ten Freshman of the Week winner in program history.

Webster is ranked No. 10 at 149 pounds and he’s a perfect 6-0 to start his redshirt freshman season.

Last weekend he went 5-0 including 3-0 in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic tournament on November 10 where he took home the Hammer Award in the top 149-pound bracket. He pinned Harvard’s Jaden Pepe in 1:17 in round one, decisioned Alex Nini of Rutgers, 4-1, in round two and beat Penn’s Cross Wasiliewski via 8-7 decision in the first-place match.
