CHAMPAIGN COUNTY (CHAMBANA TODAY) – On Sunday, April 7, 2024 at approximately 8:15pm, Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of 800 Leverett Road in Somer Township for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving injury. Upon arrival, deputies found an unresponsive person, who was determined to be the driver of Unit 1, and immediately started providing CPR. A second vehicle was found in the nearby ditch. Investigation showed that Unit 1, a passenger car being driven by Molly Zabinski, a 33-year-old female from Palatine, was travelling East on Leverett Road and Unit 2, a passenger car being driven by Jordan Robinson, a 21-year-old male from Sidney, was travelling West. For an unknown reason, Unit 1 entered into the Westbound lane of Leverett Road and a collision occurred with Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Four other individuals, including a three-year-old occupant of Unit 1 and three occupants from Unit 2, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Champaign County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction deputies responded to assist in the investigation. This accident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
