CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation (CUSF) is gearing up for its inaugural “We Are the Schools Music Fest,” a unique event designed to celebrate the local school community, music scene, and the people who make a difference in education.
Scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, at The City Center (505 S. Chestnut St.), the festival will run until 7 p.m. and feature performances by 11 local bands, each composed of teachers, staff, or students. Notable acts include Mariachi Tigres de Urbana, New Orleans Jazz Machine, Squirrel Movement, Modern Drugs, and The Yung Ones.
In addition to the musical performances, the event will offer kid-friendly activities, as well as information booths hosted by local organizations and high school service clubs. The festivities will be emceed by Pete Shungu and co-hosted by CUSF board member DeShawn Williams.
Tickets for the event will be available for purchase soon on the CUSF website. Prices are set at $40 for general admission, with discounted rates of $10 for teachers, staff, and public-school parents and siblings, and $5 for students. These discounts are made possible through sponsorships. Meal tickets for an adult meal ($10), kid’s meal ($5), and snacks ($1) will also be available for pre-sale.
All proceeds from the festival will support CUSF’s teacher grants and various projects that benefit public school educators, students, and families in the Champaign-Urbana area.
