CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois women’s basketball team beat No. 23 Iowa 62-57 at the State Farm Center. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Illini and marked their second victory over a ranked opponent this season, despite missing key players Makira Cook and Gretchen Dolan.
Four of Illinois’ starters scored in double figures. Kendall Bostic led the way, tallying 17 points and 14 rebounds. Adalia McKenzie and Genesis Bryant each added 12 points, with Bryant’s clutch free throws in the closing moments securing the upset.
While Iowa controlled the boards with a 42-31 rebounding advantage, Illinois forced 18 turnovers and committed just 10 of their own. At the free-throw line, Illinois tallied a perfect 8-for-8, in contrast to Iowa’s 8-for-17 struggles.
The Illini will look to build on this momentum when they visit Indiana on Thursday, January 16, for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
