CHAMPAIGN-URBANA (Chambana Today) – Recent city ordinances in Urbana and Champaign require property owners to remove snow and ice from sidewalks after winter weather leaves two or more inches of snow. Starting at 11 a.m. on Monday, snow and ice removal is mandatory in designated districts within both cities. In Urbana, sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours, while in Champaign, property owners have 48 hours. Failure to comply could result in the city clearing the sidewalks at the property owner’s expense.

The affected areas in Urbana include the Downtown, University, and South Philo Road districts, while in Champaign, the Downtown, Midtown, and Campustown areas are targeted. Property owners outside these districts are encouraged to clear their sidewalks voluntarily and are reminded not to place snow into the street.
