URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – H Mart, the nation’s largest Asian supermarket chain, opened Thursday morning in downtown Urbana. Kick-off activities included a Lion Dance, giveaways, remarks from the mayor, and a ribbon cutting. The 32,000-square-foot store, located at 220 N. Broadway Ave. in downtown Urbana, officially opened to a crowd of 200 eager shoppers.

H Mart is known for its extensive selection of produce, seafood, meats, prepared foods, packaged goods, and housewares. In addition to the wide range of groceries, the Urbana H Mart will feature a food court that includes Jaws TPK, offering Korean street food; Paik’s Noodle, serving Korean-Chinese fare; Cho Dang, providing Korean barbecue; and Paris Baguette, a bakery.

Mayor Diane Marlin said the City of Urbana is excited to welcome this new grocery option to the community. “Our diverse community is excited to welcome this retailer to our downtown area. The increased foot traffic, and easy-to-get-to location will continue to revitalize downtown Urbana.”

The Urbana location is the first H Mart store outside of the Chicagoland area and will be the sixth in Illinois. The store hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and will remain open 365 days a year.
