CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The City of Champaign is inviting residents to weigh in on its Homelessness Prevention Blueprint Snapshot, a developing initiative focused on reducing housing instability and making homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring.
City officials say the effort comes amid ongoing national concerns about homelessness. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 23 out of every 10,000 people in the United States experienced homelessness in 2024.
In response, the Champaign City Council has made addressing housing needs a priority and is working toward a comprehensive plan tailored to the local community.
Officials emphasized that public feedback will play a key role in shaping the final blueprint. The city is seeking input from residents, service providers and other stakeholders to ensure the plan reflects a wide range of perspectives.
To gather that feedback, the city has launched an online survey available through May 15. The survey can be accessed via the city’s engagement website, and printed copies are also available upon request at the City Building.
