“I’ve never been the type to stick to a single track. I enjoy the challenge of learning new industries, meeting different people, and finding solutions that make a real difference,” Ireland said. “Every career move I’ve made has given me a new skill, and I’m eager to apply everything I’ve learned to help Illini Media Group and our advertisers succeed.”

Outside of work, Ireland is a dedicated father to his daughter, who keeps him busy with her love for soccer. “She’s on the go all the time, but when we’re not running around, we enjoy doing everything together—cooking, golfing, bike rides, and, most importantly, our evening walks,” Ireland said with a smile. “Those walks have been some of our best conversations, especially now that she’s 13. It’s a time to connect, talk about her day, and just enjoy each other’s company.”
Ireland describes his relationship with his daughter as being built on trust, much like his professional relationships. “I think parenting is a lot like sales—you offer guidance, but ultimately, it’s about building trust and being there when it counts. I hope to bring that same spirit to my work at Illini Media Group.”

One of the biggest challenges in today’s media landscape is the role of social media in sales. Ireland has embraced it as a necessary tool to stay ahead of the curve. “Social media has completely changed how we communicate and engage with clients. It sets the speed limit for information today. If something happens at noon, it’s already on Facebook by 12:30,” Ireland explained. “As salespeople, we need to stay in front of that. Whether you’re recruiting, selling a product, or promoting a local business, you have to meet people where they’re at—and right now, that’s on social media.”
While he admits it’s not his favorite tool, Ireland recognizes the importance of using it to its full potential. “I wouldn’t say I love social media, but I’m not blind to its power. If we use it effectively, it can be a game changer for our clients and the way we reach our audience.”
