DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) — A Danville man has been formally charged in connection with a shooting at the Save-A-Lot parking lot on May 2 that left one person dead and another hospitalized.

Dominick K. Cotton, 23, faces charges including Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, according to the Danville Police Department. Authorities say a second person involved in the incident remains in stable condition.

Police responded to the scene at approximately 5:03 p.m. and found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals, where one later succumbed to injuries.

The department emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety and that the investigation remains active. Deputy Chief Doug Miller stated that authorities continue to pursue every lead as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
