CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Burrito Lab will close its Champaign location next month, with owners announcing June 12 as the restaurant’s final day of operation.

In a statement shared with customers, the business said the decision was made “with a heavy heart” and thanked the Champaign-Urbana community for years of support.

“This decision wasn’t easy, and we want to express our deepest gratitude to every person who has supported us,” the statement read. “The Champaign-Urbana community showed us incredible love, support, and belief in what we were building from day one.”

The restaurant, located near the University of Illinois campus, became known for its customizable burritos and Mexican-inspired menu items.

Although The Burrito Lab is closing, the owners said they are continuing with new ventures in the community. The family has already launched La Michoacana on Wheels, an ice cream and food truck currently operating near the Plasma Center on Kirby Road.

They also announced plans to open Los Comales later this year. The new full-service restaurant will feature what owners described as a “brand-new Mexican flavor concept.” The owners encouraged customers to visit before the June 12 closing date and said they hope supporters will continue following the family’s future projects.

“Until June 12th, we’d love to see you one more time for your favorite Burrito Lab meals,” the statement said. “Thank you for being the heart and soul of our journey.”
