CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign Police have arrested two teenage suspects following a shooting incident that left a 14-year-old boy seriously injured on July 15. The incident occurred around 5:01 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Third Street, where officers responded to reports of gunfire and an injured juvenile.

Upon arrival, officers found the 14-year-old victim suffering from multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police and Champaign Fire personnel rendered immediate medical aid before transporting the victim to a local hospital. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

According to initial reports, the victim was in an outdoor area of an apartment complex when multiple individuals approached and opened fire. The suspects fled the scene, leaving behind multiple shell casings and evidence of building damage.

Overnight, police arrested two male suspects, ages 15 and 16, both from Champaign. Due to their ages, their identities have not been released. Police also recovered two firearms during the investigation.

Officers remained at the scene for several hours, collecting physical evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. Authorities are continuing to canvass the neighborhood for video surveillance footage and additional information.
