URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will honor longtime educator Paul Stoddard as he prepares to retire after more than 25 years of teaching.
Stoddard, a senior lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, will deliver his final public lecture at 5 p.m. on April 21 at Foellinger Auditorium. The event is open to alumni and the public, with both in-person attendance and a live-stream option available.
Known for his engaging teaching style, Stoddard has taught more than 12,000 students in subjects including agricultural marketing, commodity trading and agribusiness management. Colleagues say his impact extends far beyond the classroom.
“A beloved teacher, mentor, and colleague, Paul has challenged generations of students to think critically, lead with integrity, and pursue meaningful work,” said department head Sarah Low.
Stoddard joined the university full-time in 2012 after a 30-year career in agricultural real estate, commodity trading and lending. Over the years, he earned numerous teaching and advising awards, including recognition for being ranked “excellent” by students for 46 consecutive semesters.
“As I retire, my main emotion is gratitude,” Stoddard said. “I am grateful to all the students over the years who shared their thoughts, questions and dreams. Because of them, the University of Illinois is a magnificent place to teach.”
To experience Stoddard’s teaching one last time, be sure to register or tune in on April 21.
