MONTICELLO, IL (Chambana Today) – The University of Illinois Extension presents Heart Smart Eating at the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello.

Heart Smart Eating is a class where participants learn practical skills for making heart-healthy food choices, from grocery shopping to meal planning. Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control. This free community program teaches how sodium, fat, added sugar, and fiber affect the heart.

“Small changes add up to get blood cholesterol and blood pressure numbers in a healthy range,” says Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf. “The class will raise your knowledge and skills to make more informed heart-healthy food choices.”

This class is free, but participants are asked to register by April 29 at go.illinois.edu/HeartSmart or by calling 217-762-2191.
