CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Parkland College is opening up their brand new Art and Design Faculty Exhibition at the Giertz Gallery on Monday, August 19.

The free exhibition, featuring the works of Parkland’s several talented faculty artists, will run through September 28. There will be a wide variety of arts including painting, drawing, ceramics, metalsmithing, photography, video, and the event will be a good opportunity to enjoy art from local artists.

One of the participating artists is Josh Schultz, a new ceramics faculty member, who has an MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He will be giving a gallery talk Thursday, August 22 at 6:15pm. His art explores and challenges societal norms and invites you to “question, to reflect, and to celebrate the beautiful complexities of being human.” He had this to say about his current abstract figurative sculptures.

“These new pieces represent historical narratives and explore the representation of gender and sexuality throughout history, all through the lens of queer perception,” said Schultz.

Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., and will be closed on Labor Day. For more information on Giertz Gallery, visit parkland.edu or call (217) 351-2485.
