CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A Champaign teenager who recently made multiple violent threats against multiple local schools was arrested yesterday.
The 13-year-old individual was discovered to be the source of a social media post that had been circulating around with threats against multiple area schools and referenced three area middle schools by name. This was all found through the thorough research of an assigned School Resource Officer, who learned the individual was 13, was from Champaign, that the individual created the post, and that they reshared it online.
The Champaign Police Department was dispatched to Edison Middle School on Monday, August 19 at 1:50pm. The teenager was soon interviewed with their parent and it was decided afterwards that the teenager would be arrested and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for the initial charge of Aggravated Disorderly Conduct. Officers were also stationed in area school zones to promote the safety and wellbeing of the children.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing. The Champaign Police Department urges anybody with more information about this incident to call 217-351-4545. You may also submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477 (TIPS) or 373tips.com.
