CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign One to One Mentors were recently welcomed back to schools and CU One to One Mentoring (CUOOM) is officially celebrating 30 years of the Mentor Program.

CUOOM is a program in the Champaign-Urbana area that pairs the youth and students with adult mentors. One of its goals is to provide support, encouragement, and guidance throughout their school years. Mentors meet an hour a week during school days on school grounds and can use their time for a variety of things such as talking, playing games, reading together, setting personal goals, and doing classroom assignments. Mentors are meant to be open minded, non-judgmental, and good listeners.

These interactions are meant to and guide students to be better academically and mentally. To celebrate 30 years of CUOOM, CUOOM Scholarship Board Members and interested mentors will gather at the Urbana Park District Jazz Walk at 6:00 p.m. to take a photo.
