CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Two Champaign high schools were temporarily put under lock down due to a 9-1-1 call that reported an armed individual at Centennial High School.

The police were dispatched at 2:01p.m. due to a call placing a potential armed suspect at Centennial High School. They urgently swept several locations for signs of a firearm or any threat to the students and teachers along with the School Resource Officer. Fortunately, the school had also planned an early dismissal day at 1:20p.m. and the school was not very populated. Central and Centennial High School were then put under lockdown while the officers conducted the search.

After the police had reported nothing alarming on the premises, the school’s lockdown had been lifted at 2:30p.m. Upon further investigation, the caller’s story seemed to be riddled with multiple inconsistencies. Champaign Police continue to look into the source of the call and ask anyone with information related to this case to call 217-351-454, report anonymously at 217-373-8477 (TIPS) or at 373tips.com.
