DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – A convicted felon was arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison for the unlawful possession of a weapon.

On September 12, 2023, the Danville Police Department (DPD) responded to a call about a gunshot victim in the area of Edgewood Drive. After rushing to the scene, police found the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Upon further investigation, the police obtained security footage from an apartment complex in the area containing a video of Davis and the victim getting into a physical altercation. As the victim tried to get away, Davis pulled out the firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.

Due to Davis’s prior felony convictions, he is not legally allowed to possess a firearm. On Friday, September 13, 2024, Davis pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a class 2 felony. He will face eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and one year of mandatory supervised release.

“Convicted felons illegally obtaining guns pose a threat to the safety of our community and my office will continue to work with police to prosecute those found in violation of the law,” said State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy.
