CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Conference NAACP is holding its 87th Annual Convention in Champaign and will hold a Town Hall Meeting open to the Champaign-Urbana public.

The NAACP is one of the nation’s oldest civil rights organizations, monitoring equal opportunity and conducting voter mobilization throughout the community. The organization will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Friday, September 27 at the Salem Baptist Church. Prior to the meeting, individuals from the Salem Baptist Church and the Champaign County African American Heritage Trail will unveil the official Salem Baptist Church trail marker.

The marker highlights and marks the church’s history and its role in the local African-American community. There will also be a Food Giveaway hosted by the NAACP with Divine 9 volunteers prior to the meeting. The itinerary is as follows:

  • 5:00 to 5:30p.m – Champaign County African American Heritage Trail sign unveiling
  • 5:00 to 6:00p.m.NAACP food giveaway in parking lot of Salem Baptist Church
  • 6:00 to 8:00p.m.NAACP Town Hall Meeting inside of Salem Baptist Church

The NAACP Annual Convention will take place from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29 at the Hilton Garden Inn. The theme this year is “ALL IN” which “embodies the spirit of unity and collective effort needed to address the pressing issues facing our communities.”
