CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Red Cross is once again in critical need of blood and is requesting donations from the public due to the impact of Hurricane Helene’s devastation.

Hurricane Helene has led to the cancellation of over 100 blood drives, resulting in thousands of uncollected platelet and blood donations. Blood transfusions are vital to provide for people with urgent care needs and donations in the Southeast are extremely important to keep the Red Cross stocked. The Red Cross has been negatively affected by the hurricane’s impact and is now requesting donors unaffected by the storm to schedule appointments and stabilize the severe disruption in blood supply.

The organization operates a national inventory allowing them to provide blood to where it is most needed. The Red Cross is also on the ground providing relief to victims of the devastating Hurricane Helene disaster with food, water, shelter, and support to the communities. Individuals willing to make a financial contribution can make a significant difference as well. To incentivize donation, individuals who donate blood, platelets, or plasma from October 1 to 31 will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card via email and be entered for a chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards.

More details can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/Treat. Donors help by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or by downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
