CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 7 Commander, Captain Brian Dickmann recently revealed the results of the Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) taking place in Champaign County.
The OREP is an initiative by the Illinois State Police to ensure all vehicle occupants are using safety belts and child restraint devices. These extra patrols allowed officers to focus on occupants and drivers buckling up for their own safety and were conducted on October 10, 2024.
The results are displayed below:
- 14 Safety Belt Citations
- 0 Child Restraint Citations
- 27 Total Citations
- 1 Total Written Warning
The OREP initiative is part of a broader campaign funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation aimed at enforcing the seat belt laws through more police coverage. The ISP stresses that lives could be saved if individuals simply buckled up. These patrols reinforce the protection message emphasizing safety.
