CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The 24th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countrywide Celebration is set to take place in Champaign County.
The annual celebration will be taking place on January 19, 2025 and will be honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by highlighting organizations and individuals who follow his values of justice, equality and service. The public will nominate several candidates for three prestigious awards:

James R. Burgess, Jr./Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award – An award honoring the humanitarian efforts of individuals who contribute to the basic human dignity of those in need.

Doris Hoskins Prestigious Community Service Award – An award honoring individuals who engage in improving the well-being of Champaign County.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award – An award honoring individuals or organizations that work for social justice in the spirit of Dr. King. The principles of justice that Dr. King espoused include promoting equal rights for all persons regardless of race, religion, economic status, or physical and mental ability.
