CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Martinelli’s Market, a family business with roots dating back to post-World War II Madison, Wisconsin, is located in downtown Champaign, at 500 N. Walnut Street. Customers can stop in and dine, or carry out delicacies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Originally founded by Frank Martinelli after returning home from the war, the deli is known for its house-made Italian meats and groceries. Now the business offers delicious, fresh meals daily, catering options, gift baskets, and bakery and deli items to go.
A Modern Deli with Old-World Charm
Martinelli’s Market offers a full line of kosher-style deli classics alongside house-made Italian gourmet deli meats and groceries. The market has quickly gained a reputation for serving the best Reuben in town, freshly prepared deli salads and sides, soups, and bagels topped with smoked salmon and whitefish.
Celebrating Local and Regional Food
At Martinelli’s, the focus is on celebrating the vibrant food culture of the Midwest. The market pairs house-smoked and roasted meats with locally sourced produce, cheeses, and specialty ingredients. Every dish highlights local farmers and artisans, creating meals that are as delicious as they are representative of the community. All the food is locally sourced and freshly prepared.
The grandson of Frank Martinelli, Jeffrey Brokish, was the one who brought the deli and specialty grocery store to Champaign. “Our goal every day is to celebrate the amazing food producers of the Midwest. We love food and the people that create it, and we want to share that love with you and our entire community.” Jeffrey and his wife, Lauren, also own the Central Illinois Bakehouse, where Martinelli’s Market receives a full selection of artisan breads and pastries.
Martinelli’s Market is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more information, visit here.
