CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Champaign police are investigating a shooting incident that happened on Monday, December 9.

The Champaign Police Department (CPD) dispatched officers at 7:50 p.m. to reports of a shooting with injuries at the 2400 block of West Springfield Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers found a 21-year-old female suffering from several life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers attempted to provide immediate medical aid along with the Champaign Fire Department, but the victim sadly succumbed to her injuries at the hospital shortly after.

Investigations revealed that the shooting happened when a man and woman entered a local business and an unknown individual opened fire. The woman was struck several times and the man was uninjured. The shooter then fled the scene on foot. The CPD are actively canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage to get more information. The motive behind the attack is unknown and as of now, no arrests have been made.
