DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – The Danville Police Department (DPD) is mourning the loss of officer Michael Stephens.
Stephens recently retired on May 2024 and served as a Field Training Officer in the Patrol Division. He was also the President of the Police Benevolent Protective Association Unit #11. He unfortunately passed at the age of 50 at the OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville on December 19, 2024. Michael was not only a great officer, but a son, a husband, a father, and a hard worker who was determined to make the world a better place.
He had a love for sports and loved to cheer on the Toronto Blue Jays. He served as an Air Traffic Controller for 4 years in the US Air Force and also worked at the Vermillion County Detention Center. Afterwards, he worked at the DPD training officers and then retired to become an Adult Protective Services Investigator for the Illinois Department of Aging.
His family and friends will miss him dearly. Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund being set up in Mike’s honor or to the American Legion Post 210 to honor Mike’s memory and his dedication to our community, country, and his love for sports.
