The CPD would like to remind citizens to give their car checks before heading out into the winter weather. Below is a list to keep in mind before every drive:

  • Before you leave, give your car a safety check!
  • Check all fluids, and make sure your windshield wiper fluid is rated for cold temperatures
  • Replace wiper blades to keep your windshield clear
  • Fill your fuel tank to prevent freezing and add extra weight
  • Check that your car battery is holding a charge in the cold
  • Examine the tread on tires to make sure they’re up to the trip

Here are some more general tips from the CPD:

  • If the weather is too bad, PLEASE STAY HOME!
  • Slow down in wet or icy conditions.
  • Keep your phone charged. Consider limiting apps that might waste battery power while driving.
  • Practice good car seat safety. Remove bulky coats and check all straps when tying in a little one.
