DECATUR, IL (Chambana Today) – The University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners present the best practices for pruning fruit trees in Macon County.

Pruning helps enhance a tree’s vigor, stimulates the flower and fruit productions, and helps achieve a desired tree shape. Interested participants can learn how to help trees bearing fruit in this free hands-on workshop. Fruit Tree Pruning Demonstrations are scheduled across February and March at the Crossing Healthcare Garden in Decatur.

Dates and times are scheduled below:

  • February 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • February 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • February 28 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • March 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“Come join the Master Gardeners who will teach you how and when to prune your fruit trees and the proper cuts,” says Horticulture Program Coordinator Whitney Allison.

This will be an outdoor workshop which means participants should dress for the weather and bring gloves and pruning tools if available. Registration is open until one day before the event at go.illinois.edu/FruitTree.
