Champaign County Crime Stoppers is asking the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a robbery at Exotic’s Smoke Shop on East University Avenue in Urbana.
Danville Police Officer initiated the stop in the 500 block of Clarence Street after observing a vehicle violation involving equipment and seatbelt issues. A K9 unit arrived shortly after and alerted officers to the presence of illegal items in the vehicle.
The 32 new troopers completed an 11-week program for certified police officers who graduated from an accredited law enforcement academy with at least two years experience employed as a full-time officer. The program included Cultural Diversity, Procedural Justice, Domestic Violence, Critical Incident Response, De-escalation Tactics, Firearms, First Responder Certification, Control and Arrest Tactics, Illinois Vehicle Code, Criminal Law, Motor Carrier Safety, Juvenile Law, and more.
A Champaign man has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting incident that occurred on July 28, 2024, in which two teens were killed and two others injured.
Champaign Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 2800 block of W. Kirby Avenue at 7:14 p.m. on March 26. Officers arrived on the scene but found no immediate injuries. However, evidence of gunfire was quickly located at the intersection of Stratford Drive and Trafalgar Square.
They will also receive a report of the copy to their email. The record will be transferred into their record management system officially. The day after, the Investigations division will review the reports to see if there is any need for follow up or clarification.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was inside an apartment when a confrontation occurred with two unidentified men. During the argument, a gun was fired, and the victim was struck. The man fled the apartment, seeking assistance, and was located outside the building by responding officers. The suspects fled the scene after the incident.
These NITE patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Champaign Police were dispatched at 3:23 p.m. to the 2600 block of JT Coffman Drive in Champaign after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers quickly located a victim suffering from potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. They provided emergency medical aid at the scene until the victim could be transported to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
