These NITE patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Champaign Police were dispatched at 3:23 p.m. to the 2600 block of JT Coffman Drive in Champaign after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers quickly located a victim suffering from potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. They provided emergency medical aid at the scene until the victim could be transported to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
Earlier today, the Illinois State Police (ISP) released video footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on February 25 in Bloomington. The incident, which led to the death of a 15-year-old juvenile, was investigated by the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5, following a request from the Bloomington Police Department.

The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

A 22-year-old Champaign man is once again facing first-degree murder charges, just two years after being acquitted of a similar charge. Zaire Herman, who was previously cleared in the 2023 fatal shooting of a man, now stands accused of killing another individual in a shooting on Sunday afternoon.
Urbana Police officers responded to a report of an armed subject on the 1000 block of South Smith Road on Saturday, March 15. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that a man had threatened another individual with a firearm. During the investigation, a loaded pistol was recovered. The 30-year-old Urbana man, a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing a firearm, was arrested.
The Champaign County Coroner has identified the man who was struck and killed by a car while riding his bicycle on I-74 in Urbana Sunday night. The victim has been confirmed as 57-year-old John K. Kwiatkowski, a resident of Urbana.
