The Urbana School District District #116 schools will host a variety of activities in honor of National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID)
The Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation (CUSF) has unveiled the 2025 Distinguished Alumni honorees, recognizing individuals whose accomplishments, character, and contributions serve as inspiration to students and the broader community.
IDOC is currently seeking nurses, wardens, office associates, social workers, and more. The State of Illinois offers competitive wages; health, vision, and dental insurance; vacation, sick, and personal days; wellness program; upward mobility program; deferred compensation plan; and a retirement plan. There are over 10 statewide IDOC locations.
These scholarships will be awarded throughout the state of Illinois to students who seek a higher education during the 2025-2026 academic year. These scholarships will only apply to tuition, books, and fees.

This year’s theme will have the theme “African Americans and Labor” with corresponding events. Parkland will celebrate African American experiences and accomplishments. The public is invited to participate in events unless stated otherwise beginning on Monday, February 3 with a presentation from Professor Evelyn Reynolds entitled “Black Jobs: A Review of Current U.S. Labor Statistics and Racialized Work.”
The presentation, “Bioengineered Human Disease Models,” will be presented at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium on Friday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. This presentation is a part of Parkland College’s James B. Kaler Science Lecture Series, which is named after UIUC astronomer Jim Kaler who spoke at the series each year for over 20 years.
The document advises districts to name a person or department where federal authorities can be directed. It also urges designating a “point person” to review record requests or subpoenas from immigration agencies.
Urbana School District #116 is kicking off Black History Month with a special celebration on Sunday, January 26 at Dr. Preston Williams Elementary School.
The training will take place from January 24 and 25 at Kaufman Lake in Champaign. The instructors from Muddy River Divers will be teaching firefighters from the CFD, with other area fire departments the techniques for ice rescue.
